Billie McKeown, Stevens Point, was one of two Arlene Stahmer 2017 Volunteers of the Year recipients. The award is named after Arlene Stahmer, long-time anti-poverty advocate and CAP Services Board member from Marquette County.

Billie began volunteering at CAP Services’ Family Crisis Center (FCC) in June 2016 as a co-facilitator of the Women’s Support Group. Billie provided the group with an upbeat and compassionate facilitation style. She has since stepped down from the co-facilitation role, but continues to attend group as a volunteer, offering support that enriches the experience for all group members. Billie also organizes meals for our group sessions through the summer months, soliciting volunteers and donations from her coworkers at Lands’ End. With a background in catering, Billie provides beautifully crafted meals that help increase participation in the group. Billie also picks up groceries for FCC on a weekly basis. Billie has served as a CAP Sexual Assault Victim Services (SAVS) volunteer in the past, completing over 12 hours of SAVS training. She is currently an on-call SAVS volunteer.

Billie exemplifies characteristics of a great volunteer for CAP Services. Our programs operate more efficiently with her help and our clients are served with respect and care.
