Take A Step 5K

Community members of all ages take part in a previous Take A Step 5K Run/Walk. This year’s 5k, which benefits CAP Services’ Family Crisis Center, will be held May 6.

The 13th annual Take A Step 5K Run/Walk to support CAP Services’ Family Crisis Center (FCC) will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 6th, starting at the Pfiffner Building, 501 Franklin Street, in Stevens Point.

Race Day registration begins at 4 p.m. Registration forms are available at www.capservices.org/takeastep for advanced registration.

In addition to the 5k, the event features a free 50-yard fun run for children 9 and younger before the race at about 5:30 p.m.

Proceeds from the Take a Step 5K Run/Walk will benefit victims and survivors and help them “Take a Step” towards a brighter future. Participation can make a difference in many lives. In 2014, the Family Crisis Center provided support and assistance to more than 850 individuals.

“Without community support, CAP Services’ Family Crisis Center would not be able to provide the quality services our community relies on,” said Jane Benzschawel, FCC Director. “The 5k is a fun way for people to learn more about what we do and give back to the community at the same time.”

Major sponsors for this year’s event include Ministry Health Care, John & Patty Noel, Delta Dental, Paramount Farms. Spectra Print, Mark Motors, 97.9 WSPT, United Way of Portage County, Oasis Irrigation, and Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection.

The CAP Services’ Family Crisis Center has been providing service to domestic abuse and sexual assault victims in central Wisconsin since 1978. Free and confidential services are provided 24 hours a day by a team of professional staff. Offices are located in Portage, Waupaca and Waushara counties. Additional services such as a 24-hour telephone toll-free hotline, walk-in crisis counseling, and emergency shelter are also available.

CAP Services is a private, nonprofit community action agency that has been helping low-income people in Marquette, Outagamie, Portage, Waupaca and Waushara counties attain economic and emotional self-sufficiency since 1966.
