The 12th annual Take A Step 5K Run/Walk to support CAP Services’ Family Crisis Center will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 30th, on the UW-Stevens Point campus.
This year’s event is being held during April in recognition of Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Race Day registration begins at 4 p.m. outside the Allen Center on Illinois Avenue across from parking lot “Q”. Registration forms are available at www.capservices.org/takeastep for advanced registration. Reduced-fee, early bird registration ends April 5th.
In addition to the 5k, the event features a free 50-yard fun run for children 9 years old and younger before the race at about 5:30 p.m.
Following the race and awards ceremony, people are invited to join the Take Back the Night event, sponsored by UW-Stevens Point’s Women’s Resource Center. The event is a time to come together as a community to speak out against sexual assault. There will be a moment of silence to honor the courage of victims and survivors of violence and a candlelight walk together to the UW-Stevens Point’s Sundial.
Proceeds from the Take a Step 5K Run/Walk will benefit victims and survivors and help them “Take a Step” towards a brighter future. Participation can make a difference in many lives. In 2013, the Family Crisis Center provided support and assistance to more than 850 individuals.
The CAP Services’ Family Crisis Center has been providing service to domestic abuse and sexual assault victims in central Wisconsin since 1978.
