It is not easy being a youth in today’s world. The effects of domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, drug abuse and suicide are all increasing. The Children and Youth Services program at CAP Services’ Family Crisis Center (FCC) is a community based advocacy program of free and confidential support services in Portage and Waupaca counties. Youth services provides assistance to youth and their parents/guardians in times of crisis. The youth shelter at the FCC offers a safer place to stay and emergency shelter for unaccompanied youth ages 11-17 who are runaway, homeless, pushed out of the home, or who need temporary respite. Staff also provide a 24-hour-a-day toll-free crisis line, walk-in counseling, family mediation, referrals, and a teen healthy relationships group that are available both in and out of shelter.

In addition to the shelter we also offer trauma informed, strength based, supportive services for children, youth, family and friends for individual meetings that can be held virtually, in school or other public areas that the youth is comfortable with. Safety planning, tips for teens, prevention material and interactive activities are also used to connect and become an additional and trusted adult to help increase life skills and confidence. Staff additionally offers connections to accompaniment for medical care and legal proceedings, referrals, child protective services and support groups.

Staff are also able to work with individual agencies and non-profit groups to provide presentations and community collaborated support groups that fit specific needs to individual groups so that everyone is able to have better access for support and education.

You are never alone.
