CAP Services Tax Program Open House in Waupaca set for Dec. 13

//CAP Services Tax Program Open House in Waupaca set for Dec. 13

CAP Services is seeking volunteers to fill a variety of roles helping provide free tax help in Waupaca County through the VITA program this upcoming filing season. CAP will hold a volunteer open house from 10 to 11 a.m., Saturday, December 13 at 101 Tower Road in Waupaca. All are welcome.

Volunteer greeters, drop-off specialists, office assistants, and tax preparers are needed to assist with the program that has been helping low- and moderate-income individuals and families maximize their tax returns in Waupaca since 2007.

“The VITA program helps households capture the tax credits and refunds due them, increasing disposable income and providing more resources to make ends meet,” said Erin Olson, CAP’s Project Development Coordinator, who runs the VITA program. “Last year, volunteers assisted 162 households in Waupaca County to secure nearly $317,000 in income tax refunds. In addition to securing credits and refunds, volunteers in the program help clients save money that would otherwise be spent on tax preparation services.”

Volunteers do not need any previous experience. Free training will be provided for each role. IRS-sponsored training, including an online tax law course, classroom instruction and some self-study, is available for volunteer tax preparers. By giving a few hours each week, volunteers can experience the satisfaction of helping clients receive tax credits they may not have realized.

CAP will offer free tax preparation services at several sites throughout Waupaca County. If you are interested in volunteering, please attend the open house, visit the CAP Services website at capservices.org/vita, or contact Erin Olson at eolson@capmail.org or 715-343-7165.
