Here’s how you can help

CAP Services currently has an opening on its Board of Directors. We invite you to cast a vote or write in another eligible candidate name.

CAP Services, Inc. has been on the front-line of the war on poverty since 1966. CAP, a private, non-profit corporation, offers programs in Portage, Outagamie, Marquette, Waupaca, and Waushara counties. CAP Services is headquartered in Stevens Point, Wisconsin; with offices in each of the five counties it serves.

When President Lyndon Johnson began the “War on Poverty” in 1964 his goal was to provide the opportunity for every American to enjoy the benefits of the nation’s “Great Society.” As part of the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964, a network of local organizations, known as Community Action Agencies, have pioneered programs which have lifted millions out of the shadow of poverty by “giving a hand, not a handout.” Each of these organizations has policy-making boards, at least one-third of which must be democratically elected representatives of the low-income community.

Outagamie County – Low Income Seat

My name is Monique Anderson and I am a current resident of Outagamie County. I have resided in Outagamie County for eight years. I am currently a returning adult student at Fox Valley Technical college in Appleton WI. I am in my second semester in the Occupational Therapy Assistant Program. I chose the Occupational Therapy Assistant Program, because I wanted a career in the medical field and I felt like OTA was a good fit for me. Occupational Therapists are health professionals who use occupation and meaningful activities with specific goals to help people of all ages prevent, lessen or adapt to disabilities.

I have worked closely with people for over 12 years. I worked for Clinique as a Beauty Consultant for 7 years at Yonkers, also I worked for Walgreens for 5 years as a Beauty Consultant. I worked one on one with people providing skincare and make up recommendations as well as applications.

I wanted to take my people skills and passion for helping people to another level, and I started researching health care professionals and Occupational Therapy resonated with me the most. This profession allows me to remain creative, and continue to work with people and help them achieve health goals by being functional in everyday living activities. I am also a dedicated volunteer at my church.
